We are proud to announce the opening of the 2018 season, our 5th season of ownership of the Salmon River Lighthouse & Marina  This year we will celebrate and commemorate the 180th year for the Selkirk Lighthouse as an iconic and historic Oswego County landmark.  It is an honor for our family to be an integral part of this rich heritage and to share with our many guests and friends the "story" of this "Grand Old Lady of the Sea."  We look forward to seeing all of you this year!!

The 2018 Lighthouse monthly "Open House" program will commence, weather permitting, once again in April or May of 2018.  Thanks to everyone for your kind and generous support in 2017 and we look forward to seeing all of our "Friends of Selkirk", old and new alike, in the upcoming season!  We will hold the monthly Open House on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during our operational "season", which typically begins in April and ends in November. We invite everyone to visit and experience the mystique of this grand old structure and to learn all about its history from a member of our knowledgeable staff, from our free written historical handout packets or from one of the informational interpretive displays on-site. We hope to see you soon!!

Recent History and Developments

As new owners in 2014, we completed many improvements and upgrades to nearly every part of our property with additional improvements completed in each season since 2014.  The interiors and exteriors of the Lighthouse and all three cottages continue to be renovated and upgraded as needed.  For those guests who have not stayed with us since 2013, we have also constructed a completely new concrete boat launch ramp and purchased brand new floating "north" docks prior to the 2015 season.  The old, boarded-up hotel which had become an eyesore to the surrounding area was razed in early 2016.

If you were a guest at the property prior to 2014, you may not recognize it today due to the numerous improvements and modifications which have been completed.  If 2018 will be your first-ever visit, we promise you as well as our returning guests, a comfortable, relaxing and carefree environment along the Salmon River and on Lake Ontario and we look forward to your stay with us.

Enjoy spending time in our 3-bedroom Lighthouse with its new yellow birch hardwood flooring in the kitchen and dining areas. In 2016, a brand new composite slate tile roof was installed and the original 1838 hardwood plank flooring in the first floor living room area and rear foyer and hallway was uncovered and beautifully refinished.  You may also choose to stay in one of our three (3) rental cottages, also located right in the midst of one of New York State's premier fisheries. Situated at the convergence of the Salmon River and Lake Ontario, our Lighthouse, Marina and cottages offer something for everyone, young and old alike.

For generations, families, fishermen and lighthouse lovers from around the world have spent time enjoying the beautiful surroundings, sunsets and beaches in this area of New York state.  Unlike a major portion of Lake Ontario with its rocky coastline, our guests are afforded the unique and quiet enjoyment of our family's long span of private, soft, sandy beach located directly across the River and over the dunes, right on the shore of the Lake. With its gently sloping and soft, sandy lake bottom, the Lake and lakeshore are ideal playgrounds for smaller children on calmer days and the private-use picnic tables and umbrellas placed on the sand for our guests complete the setting for a memorable family day enjoying the crystal clear waters of Lake Ontario.

Once again in 2018, we are proud to have eight (8) of Lake Ontario's finest charter boat captains home-ported and operating from our Marina as members of the Salmon River Lighthouse & Marina Fleet.  When the late summer or fall Salmon "Run" begins, we are also the launch site of choice for numerous drift boat charters in search of the migrating schools as they enter the River on their spawning journey.

We anticipate the addition of new charter boats as an already top-notch fleet in one of the finest world-class fisheries in the state of New York continues to grow.

Each year trophy-sized King (Chinook) and Coho salmon, Brown, Lake and Steelhead Trout and Bass comprise the routinely bountiful catch by charter boat customers and private boat owners and 2018 should prove to be another banner year.  Ontario's Lake and Brown trout season begins in the spring after "ice-out"and shifts to King (Chinook) and Coho Salmon in the early summer months.  In late summer or early fall, angling action is front and center just yards offshore in the Lake and then transitions to the arrival of the exciting and fast-paced "Salmon Run", which occurs right through our "front yard" and up the Salmon River, when waders and korkers become standard wardrobe attire for our fishing guests.  For the heartier, die hard fisherman, the late fall and early winter months also offer tremendous river fishing with Steelhead Trout becoming the featured catch.

For those with ambitions other than world-class freshwater sport fishing, our 1838 fully-operational Selkirk Lighthouse and three cottages offer spacious and comfortable family vacation accommodations throughout the spring, summer and fall.  Just minutes away are the Salmon River Falls, the Salmon River Fish Hatchery, a fine selection of golf courses, restaurants, shopping options, miniature golf and a go-cart track.  We are also located close enough to the 1000 Islands, Canada, and the Adirondack Region of New York to make fun, family day trips an added option and bonus.

In addition to offering the 2-story Lighthouse and three (3) cottages for rent, we also offer seasonal & transient boat slip rentals, seasonal & daily boat launches, seasonal & daily parking, small motorized fishing boat, kayak and canoe rentals, a fully-staffed marina store and ethanol-free "ValvTect-enhanced" 91 octane gas and diesel fuel.
